Assam: Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain appointed as DSP

Guwahati: Tokyo Olympic Bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain on Wednesday was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Assam Police.

In the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Borgohain was inducted as Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police on Friday.

CM Sarma presented Lovlina with her appointment letter at a ceremony attended by key state government officials as well as police officials, including Director-General of Police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta.

After being inducted as a DSP, the Olympic bronze medalist addressed the crowd, saying that the day would go down in history as the proudest and most unforgettable day of her life.

“I consider myself fortunate to have been appointed as Assam Police’s DSP. “I would do everything in my power to help my state of Assam and its people,” Borgohain stated.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “From the backwaters of Assam to Olympic glory, journey of Smt. @LovlinaBorgohai is inspiring. I’m elated to give her the appointment letter for the post of DySP. I congratulate her and hope that she will inspire the youth with her achievements in sports & official work.”

Meanwhile, Assam police congratulating the Bronze medalist tweeted, “Welcome Aboard! Heartiest Congratulations to @LovlinaBorgohai on being appointed as a Dy.SP in Assam Police. Your presence will surely help us in our mission towards friendly policing in the State.”
