Assam on Track to Become Central Hub for Medical Education, Announces Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati, 1st September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on September 1 that Assam is well on its way to becoming a central hub for medical education in India. This vision aims to enhance healthcare accessibility and create numerous job opportunities in the state, with Assam significantly increasing its capacity in the medical field.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Assam is progressing towards having 2,000 MBBS seats and over 1,000 postgraduate (PG) seats. The recent inauguration of three newly constructed medical colleges in Assam has enabled the simultaneous commencement of academic sessions, marking a crucial milestone in the state’s journey towards medical excellence.
Participating in the oath-taking ceremony for medical professionals in Nagaon, the Chief Minister affirmed the state’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of healthcare experts.
This ambitious initiative took shape on June 27 when CM Sarma expressed Assam’s aspiration to evolve into a healthcare hub for South East Asia. During the third convocation of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, he outlined the government’s vision to establish a cutting-edge health education ecosystem.
