Assam: One arrested in Guwahati for duping Mumbai man worth Rs 21 lakh
Guwahati: A police team from Noonmati Police Station in Guwahati, Assam and the Mumbai Crime Branch apprehended a man for allegedly duping a man from Mumbai, Maharastra worth Rs 21 lakh.
Biswajit Das, a resident of Tarabari in Barpeta, Assam was accused of defrauding a senior citizen in Mumbai of Rs 21 lakh through a digital arrest scam.
The scam was reported on January 29, when the victim received a call from an imposter claiming to be an official from the Directorate of Enforcement.
The accused allegedly coerced the elderly individual into transferring Rs 21 lakh to a bank account linked to YTSYl Wellness Multi Trade Pvt Ltd, under the false pretence of avoiding legal trouble.
After the victim realized they had been duped, the Mumbai Crime Branch was informed and an investigation was initiated.
During the operation, the Mumbai Crime Branch was able to trace the alleged fraudulent transaction to Biswajit Das.
Based on the input, the crime branch team reached out to the state police and tracked Das down.
The police arrested him from his temporary residence in Noonmati.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out.
