Assam: Over 1 Kg Suspected Morphine Seized at Guwahati Railway Station
Guwahati: A routine inspection at Guwahati railway station on Wednesday morning led to the seizure of over 1 kg of suspected morphine from a passenger aboard the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express.
The Government Railway Police (GRP), acting on confidential intelligence, apprehended Ajoy Kumar Gupta, 26, for allegedly transporting the contraband.
Gupta, a resident of Jaitpura village in Bihar’s Kaimur district, was found in possession of 1.008 kg of the banned substance. He had reportedly boarded the train at Mariani railway station in Assam and was en route to Uttar Pradesh when he was intercepted.
The discovery was made during an inspection of train number 12423 DN, following which the GRP promptly took Gupta into custody.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the source and destination of the contraband.
This seizure highlights the ongoing vigilance of law enforcement authorities in curbing drug trafficking through railway networks in the region.
