Assam: Over 200 Families Affected By Floods In Dhemaji
Guwahati: Fresh floods in Dhemaji district of Assam have impacted more than 200 families from different villages as a result of recent heavy rainfall.
Following significant rains in portions of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, the Siang River and its tributaries have been rising in level, flooding as many as 10 villages in the Jonai sub-division.
Numerous residents were compelled to evacuate their houses because of the floods and seek refuge in safer locations. According to officials, the flood in the area may have had an impact on as many as 200 people.
“The food has had an impact on around 200 families throughout 10–12 villages. The district administration is keeping an eye on things. Today’s water situation is just marginally better “said Jonai Circle Officer Writu Pallav Baruah.
According to a resident of the flood-affected Jamuguri village, the Siang River’s rising water level caused his village to be submerged.
“The last three to four days have seen a progressive rise in the water level. My house is now submerged in floodwaters, leaving us defenceless. Our village is only connected by a bamboo bridge, but as the water level rises, we are having a lot of trouble using it “a villager reported.
Moreover, there is a lack of food for cattle, drinking water and nourishment for many flood victims in the area.
Landslides and floods have claimed the lives of 192 people so far this year in Assam.
