Assam: Over 34 students hospitalized over suspected food poisoning in Tinsukia
Guwahati, September 3, 2024 – Thirteen students from Jatiya Vidyalaya in Mamorani were rushed to Tinisukia Medical College after a suspected case of food poisoning. The students, who reside in the school’s hostel, began showing symptoms of illness shortly after consuming breakfast earlier today.
The exact cause of the food poisoning is still under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest that the contamination may have stemmed from the consumption of fish or possibly stale food served during breakfast. The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety standards in the hostel.
This alarming event recalls a similar incident in June 2024 at Hariram Maheshwari Hindi Primary School in Bongaigaon, Assam, where several children fell ill after eating a mid-day meal. In that case, expired biscuits provided during lunch were suspected to be the cause, leading to the hospitalization of the affected students. The Bongaigaon incident prompted an immediate response from education department officials, who visited the school to assess the situation and implement corrective measures.
The current situation at Jatiya Vidyalaya is being closely monitored by medical professionals and local authorities, who are working to determine the cause of the outbreak and prevent further incidents. The condition of the hospitalized students is reported to be stable, and they are receiving appropriate medical care.
