Assam: Over 50 individuals apprehended amidst anti-CAA protests in Sivasagar

Guwahati, 12th March: The state of Assam is bracing for widespread protests as the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and 30 indigenous organizations have called for vigorous agitation starting March 12. AASU has announced plans to burn copies of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) across the state as part of their protest.

AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya stated that along with symbolic actions like burning copies of the CAA, they will also organize a series of protest programs and continue their legal battle against the Act. He emphasized that the indigenous people of Assam and the North East vehemently oppose the CAA and will continue their non-violent, peaceful, and democratic movement against it.

In parallel, Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, along with party workers, embarked on a foot march to protest against the introduction of CAA rules by the government. Raijor Dal has called on people in Sivasagar to shut down their business establishments and join the protest against the CAA.

The situation has escalated with over 50 individuals from various organizations already arrested as anti-CAA protests erupted in Sivasagar. The dissent against the CAA remains strong, with activists and organizations mobilizing to voice their opposition against the Act.
