Assam: Over 50k Tourists Visit Kaziranga National Park Since Oct
Guwahati: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in the first two months after the park’s reopening in October over 50,000 local and international visitors visited.
According to park officials, since it reopened on October 2, 67,863 visitors including those from outside the country have come to the park. According to the park management, there were 278 foreign visitors and roughly 27,115 domestic visitors in October.
Similar to this, there were around 39,130 domestic tourists in November and 1,340 overseas visitors.
Ramesh Kumar Gogoi, divisional forest officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, “The turnout seems to be normal as of now, but we expect more tourists from the month of December onwards till the closing of the park next year in May 2023 subject to the monsoon season. There is already a flow of tourists in the park and this is a positive sign.”
Additionally, DFO Gogoi asserted that the park has developed into a premier travel destination. “KNP has emerged as the top travel destination. All major government-level gatherings now take place here, including the judicial national seminar and the first SPs conference. Therefore, this is a form of indirect tourism flow. Most importantly, Kaziranga never lets down any of its visitors,” according to the DFO.
The number of local visitors to the Kaziranga National Area was more than usual in 2017 because the Covid scare significantly decreased the number of foreign visitors, with only 733 of them opting to visit the park. According to a source in the forest, the park received 2,20,027 domestic visitors last year. According to the source, the amount of money made during the previous season was roughly Rs 4,46,75,660.
