Assam: Over 74% Voter Turnout in NCHAC Election; Peaceful Conduct Reported

Guwahati, 9th January: Assam’s North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) election witnessed a voter turnout of more than 74%, according to officials.

The polling process was conducted peacefully, with no untoward incidents reported. The election, covering 22 seats, commenced at 8 am, and around 74% of the 1,15,615 voters exercised their franchise.

The final voter turnout figure is expected to be available on Tuesday afternoon as figures from remote polling stations are compiled. Votes will be counted on January 12, with six BJP candidates winning uncontested out of a total of 28 constituencies in the NCHAC.

Voting took place at 231 polling stations, including 15 marked as very sensitive, 36 as sensitive, and 21 as comparatively safe. Additionally, 16 polling stations were exclusively designated for women.

The BJP aims to retain power in the council, while opposition parties like the Congress and Trinamool Congress have also fielded candidates.
