Assam: Overseas Ticketing Counter Opened at GRS
Guwahati: A foreign ticketing counter has been established at the Guwahati train station in order to better serve customers travelling by the Mitali Express, which began service on June 1 and connects West Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri and Bangladesh’s Dhaka Cantonment.
According to IANS, Northeast Frontier Train (NFR) has begun running the overseas booking counter at the Guwahati railway station. This would help travellers from northeastern states who want to use Mitali Express services, including tourists and businesspeople.
According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De, only Kolkata and New Jalpaiguri stations were able to sell Mitali Express tickets in the past.
According to him, travellers no longer have to travel all the way to New Jalpaiguri or Kolkata to get tickets for the Mitali Express.
The distance between New Jalpaiguri in north Bengal and Assam’s main city of Guwahati is 333 km.
The NFR, one among the 17 railway zones in India, operates fully and partially in six of the eight northeastern states, excluding Meghalaya and Sikkim, and in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar.
