Assam: Panbari Police Nab Poacher with Haul of Tiger Parts

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough against wildlife crime, Panbari Police in Chirang district successfully apprehended a suspected poacher in the Bijni area on Saturday. The arrest, made during an operation at No. 4 Dailongjhar village, led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of illegal wildlife contraband.

The accused, identified as 40-year-old Kamal Mondal, a resident of the same village, was intercepted while allegedly transporting the illicit animal remains. Acting on a precise tip-off, law enforcement officers launched a targeted operation that culminated in Mondal’s capture.

Among the seized items were three tiger teeth, ten tiger claws, and a staggering 144 pieces of tiger bones, indicating the scale of the poaching operation. In addition to the wildlife parts, a motorcycle bearing registration number AS 26 B 7603, believed to be used for transportation, and an Oppo mobile phone were also confiscated from the suspect.

Following his arrest, Kamal Mondal and the recovered materials were brought to Panbari Police Station for further proceedings. While the arrest itself took place on Friday, police officials opted to disclose the details to the media on Saturday, citing ongoing investigative procedures. The police continue their probe into the matter, aiming to uncover any wider network involved in the illegal wildlife trade.
