Assam: Picnic Mishap in Karimganj Leaves Seven Injured in Accident

Guwahati, 9th January: In a tragic incident on Monday, a Tata Magic vehicle, registered as AS 24 AC 0780, carrying a group of eight to nine picnic-goers from Hailakandi’s Lakhsmisahar, met with an accident in Karimganj district.

The group had enjoyed a picnic at Sonbeel picnic spot and was returning home during the night when the vehicle veered off a kuccha village road near Shailanagar village, plunging approximately 20 feet into a ditch.

The loud crash caught the attention of locals, who immediately rushed to the scene. They found the occupants of the vehicle in distress in a small waterbody and promptly assisted in their rescue.

Upon receiving about the information, the officer-in-charge of the Kalibari Police Station arrived at the spot.

The injured were immediately taken to Ramkrishnanagar Primary Health Centre for initial medical aid.

Among the victims, Aman Gupta, Chintu Ghosh, Rajiv Sutradhar, Prabir Bhattacharya, Dhiraj Debnath, Raja Parmanik, and Kalachand Ghosh suffered injuries. Two members with severe injuries were further transported to Hailakandi Civil Hospital.

It’s worth noting that this unfortunate event follows another accident involving a vehicle with picnic-goers in the same region on January 1.

The majority of those injured in both incidents originally hail from West Bengal and were residing in Hailakandi due to employment reasons.
