Assam Plans to Bring 5,000 ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ to PM Modi’s Visit, Showcasing Women Empowerment Success
Guwahati, 2nd February: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Guwahati, Assam, on February 3 and 4, 2024, to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 11,000 crore. This visit aligns with the Assam government’s focus on boosting tourism and economic growth in the state.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing a press conference, shared, ‘We are mulling to bring at least five thousand ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ (wealthy sisters) to PM Modi’s public meeting. These accomplished women, who have become ‘lakhpatis,’ will be part of the state government’s delegate along with other party workers and the public.’
The chief minister highlighted the state’s success, stating that based on the economic benchmark, at least six lakh women have become ‘lakhpatis,’ part of the 40 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs). PM Modi’s vision, expressed in his Independence Day speech in 2023, aims to create 2 crore ‘lakhpati didis’—financially independent women earning at least one lakh rupees.
The Assam government’s plan to bring 5 thousand ‘Lakhpati Baideo’ to PM Modi’s meeting aligns with this vision, emphasizing the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment and financial independence. This initiative resonates with the central government’s broader goals, showcasing successful women and inspiring others to participate in self-help groups for India’s growth.
