Assam: Plant 10 trees for each one cut for road projects, Govt says

Guwahati: The Assam government has announced that from now, for every tree felled for building or road projects in non-forest regions, the government will plant ten new trees to increase green cover.

The decision was made in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday.

The government has launched a new programme called “Compensatory Plantation” to alleviate the environmental repercussions of infrastructure expansion by implementing Sustainable Development policies.

Many Guwahati residents have recently expressed worry about the trees that have to be destroyed to make way for the new flyover at Zoo Road Tiniali.

All divisional forest authorities have been instructed to finalise the demand for 1:10 tree planting.

It needs to be mentioned that this is a part of the government’s action plan towards sustainable development.
