Assam: Poachers Nabbed in Baksa with Tiger Teeth Near Manas National Park

Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on wildlife crime, the Manas forest department has apprehended two individuals in the Baksa district, close to the renowned Manas National Park. The arrest took place in Bodo Bazaar, where the suspects were reportedly engaged in the illicit trade of tiger teeth.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Firoz Narzari, a 40-year-old resident of Kumguri, and Minister Basumatary, a 26-year-old from Bongaon. Acting on credible intelligence, forest officials executed a targeted operation, leading to the detention of the pair at a local tea shop within the bustling market area. It is alleged they were in the midst of negotiating the sale of four tiger teeth.

Alongside the arrest of the two men, authorities also seized a scooter and two mobile phones. These items are believed to have been instrumental in their illegal activities and are now part of the ongoing investigation.

Both Firoz Narzari and Minister Basumatary are currently held in the custody of the Manas Forest Department. The authorities are conducting further investigations to ascertain any potential connections to a wider wildlife trafficking network, aiming to dismantle the illegal trade that threatens the region’s precious wildlife.
