Assam: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Temporarily Closes During Monsoon Season
Guwahati, 22nd May: Assam’s famed Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, renowned for its vibrant biodiversity and abundant population of Indian one-horned rhinoceros, has announced its closure to tourists as the monsoon season descends upon the region.
The sanctuary authorities have taken this precautionary step in anticipation of heavy rainfall during the monsoon, which often creates challenging conditions for visitors. This closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of both tourists and the diverse wildlife inhabiting the sanctuary.
Situated in the Morigaon district of Assam, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary boasts a rich array of flora and fauna, including numerous bird species, mammals, and reptiles. However, its low-lying terrain renders it susceptible to flooding during the monsoon, presenting potential hazards to visitors.
Officials have advised tourists and wildlife enthusiasts to refrain from visiting the sanctuary until further notice, emphasizing the paramount importance of prioritizing safety amidst adverse weather conditions. The closure is expected to remain in effect until the monsoon subsides and the sanctuary’s conditions become conducive to resuming tourism activities.’
