Assam Police Achieve High Charge Sheeting Rate in Criminal Cases
Guwahati, Assam – The Assam Police have demonstrated significant progress in their mission to bolster law enforcement and foster citizen-centric policing across the state.
During the most recent monthly crime conference, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared promising data that highlighted the effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives.
As of March 2025, the Assam Police have successfully chargesheeted an impressive 75.5 per cent of all criminal cases.
Furthermore, the state has shown a strong commitment to the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with 80.4 per cent of BNS cases reaching the chargesheet stage. Since July 2024, a total of 19,373 BNS cases have been resolved.
In terms of new case registrations up to March 2025, the police have recorded 11,747 cases. This includes 10,387 cases under the BNS, 221 under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and 1,139 cases related to special acts.
Chief Minister Sarma reiterated the unwavering dedication of the Assam Police to enhance public safety and ensure swift and transparent justice through a policing approach that prioritizes the needs of the citizens. The state’s commendable performance in managing criminal cases underscores its continuous focus on upholding law and order and safeguarding the welfare of its populace.
