Assam Police Arrest Three Bangladeshi Nationals for Illegal Entry; Deportation Follows
In a late-night operation on August 19, Assam Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally crossed into India through Tripura. The detainees, identified as MD Abu Shaid, Asadul Islam, and MD Sarwar, all hail from the Rajshahi district in Bangladesh.
During the arrest, authorities discovered that one of the men was in possession of an Aadhaar card, raising concerns about the misuse of India’s biometric identification system, which is intended only for legal residents. This individual was also found to have previously entered India illegally.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the incident on social media, stating, “Assam Police apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals last night who entered India from the Tripura side.” He further revealed that the trio had planned to travel to Chennai for work.
The swift action by Assam Police underscores the challenges in preventing repeat illegal entries and highlights the potential vulnerabilities in the Aadhaar system. Following their arrest, the three men were reportedly deported back to Bangladesh.
