Assam Police Arrested Another PFI in Nagarbera
Guwahati, 17 May: Following the national government’s prohibition, the Popular Front of India (PFI) has been the target of ongoing operations. On Tuesday night, a fugitive member of the group was apprehended at Nagarbera in Kamrup district of Assam.
The officer in charge of the Nagarbera Police Station Mirel Ahmed conducted a raid and arrested Abdul Rezzak Ali who is a PFI member.
It is established that the member was allegedly on the run immediately after the centre banned the organisation. However, Abdul was taken into custody by the police after several months.
Following the arrest Abdul was today taken into custody.
Assam Police further stated that some other PFI members are still active in Nagarbera area and police operation is still on to nab the PFI members.
In accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Popular Front of India (PFI), its associates and its affiliates were immediately outlawed as unlawful associations by the Central government with a period for five years.
The statement was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which declared “the PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts as an unlawful association with immediate effect” in a notification late on Tuesday night.
The restriction applies to PFI as well as its other fronts such as Rehab India Foundation (RIF). All India Imams Council (AIIC), Campus Front of India (CFI), National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO), National Women’s Front (NWF), Junior Front (JF), Empower India Foundation (EIF), Rehab Foundation (RF), Kerala as a “unlawful association”
