Assam Police Arrests 2 More Suspects with Possible Terror Links
Guwahati: Two more suspects with possible links with the banned terrorist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) has been arrested by Assam Police from Morigaon district on Monday.
The suspected terrorists identified as Mossadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam.
According to reports, Ikramul is an Imam and was apprehended in the Nagaon district.
On the other hand, the state police apprehended Hussain from the Moirabari area in the Morigaon district.
According to Aparna N, the Morigaon district’s superintendent of police, who was quoted by ANI, both of the people apprehended have connections to the outlawed group.
A madrassa in Moirabari was destroyed by the Morigaon district administrators last month after police discovered a terror cell on the property of the religious learning facility.
Following the arrest of some 40 people, including the Imam and madrasa professors, on suspicion of having ties to the terrorist organisations Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), the state administrations have so far destroyed three madrassas throughout the state.
In addition, after a preacher connected to it was detained for supposed anti-national activities, residents themselves destroyed another such educational institution.
According to reports, some militants posing as religious leaders infiltrated the state and carried out their anti-state actions covertly.
