Assam Police Bust Child Trafficking Ring in Darrang District

Darrang, July 26, 2024: In a significant breakthrough, police in Darrang district, Assam, have uncovered a child trafficking operation following the rescue of a child who had been sold for 35,000 rupees.

The case emerged when Nayan Jyoti Dev Kashyap, a resident of Kalaigaon, was arrested for allegedly selling one of his partner’s children without her knowledge. Kashyap had recently relocated to Gerimari, Mangaldoi, after meeting a woman with four children through social media.

The Darrang District Child Protection Department received information about the incident and promptly alerted local law enforcement. Acting on this tip, police detained Kashyap, a middleman, and the buyer from Bongaigaon Salmar.

All suspects were presented before a Mangaldoi court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any additional victims or accomplices involved in this trafficking network.
