Assam Police Bust Interstate Vehicle Theft Ring, 11 Arrested

Guwahati: A significant interstate vehicle theft racket, notorious for its rapid operations, has been dismantled by the Assam Police, leading to the arrest of 11 individuals. The gang, predominantly hailing from Manipur, specialized in stealing and smuggling high-end motorcycles and cars, with a reported ability to steal a motorcycle in a mere 45 seconds.

The operation yielded the recovery of 13 stolen motorcycles, with 12 being highly sought-after Royal Enfield models. Additionally, three stolen cars were seized, including two Mahindra Thar SUVs and a Mahindra Scorpio. Investigations have revealed that the stolen motorcycles were being transported to Manipur via commercial buses, highlighting the sophisticated logistics employed by the syndicate.

A pivotal moment in the investigation came with the arrest of Inamul Hussain from Goalpara, an Assam-based linkman. Hussain played a crucial role in facilitating the transfer of stolen bikes to a network in Manipur. Two other individuals involved in the transportation of the stolen vehicles were also apprehended, further disrupting the gang’s operational structure.

The gang’s modus operandi involved flying into Guwahati, where they would establish temporary bases for four to five days to execute their thefts. Notably, a young woman was also identified as a member of the syndicate, indicating the diverse composition of the criminal enterprise. The police have now intensified their efforts to identify and apprehend any remaining associates, aiming to effectively curb the escalating issue of interstate vehicle theft.
