Assam Police Busts Major Drug Haul in South Salmara, Heroin and Pharmaceuticals Worth Over ₹67 Lakh Seized

Guwahati: In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking in Assam, police apprehended a suspected drug peddler and seized heroin and pharmaceutical drugs valued at more than ₹67 lakh during a late-night operation in Bhalughat village under South Salmara Police Station on June 25.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police registered a General Diary Entry (GDE No. 15, dated 25-06-2025) and launched a targeted operation at around 11:30 PM. The raid was led by Inspector JS Khobung (OC, South Salmara PS), along with SI Kaushik Dutta, SI Isha Hoque, women constables, and other personnel.

The team raided the residence of Mohor Ali and apprehended his 27-year-old son, Ashraful Islam, who is suspected to be a professional drug peddler.

Items Seized:
• Heroin: 25 soap cases containing 1001 grams (with containers) and 316 grams (net)
Estimated value: ₹63,20,000
• Tramadol Capsules: 32 strips (24 capsules per strip; total 768 capsules, approx. 622 grams)
Estimated value: ₹3,84,000
• Mobile Phone: Oppo handset with two SIM cards registered to the accused
• Vehicle: Yamaha motorcycle (Reg. No. AS01FF-5820)

The heroin was tested on-site using a drug detection kit and confirmed positive. All evidence was seized in the presence of independent witnesses and digitally documented through the e-Sakshya platform.

A formal case is being registered, and further investigation is underway to track the drug supply chain and identify additional culprits linked to the trafficking network.
