Assam Police Busts Major Terror Module in Morigaon
Guwahati: The arrest of 10 people associated to the extreme Bangladeshi group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) on Thursday marked the dismantling of a significant terror cell by the Assam Police.
According to Hiren Nath, ADGP (Special Branch), who was quoted by ANI, the Barpeta district-based cell was busted in the previous day and arrests were made across the state.
“Seven people have been taken into custody in the Barpeta district, along with one each in the Moirabari neighbourhood in the Morigaon, Guwahati, and Bongaigaon districts. There is a probe going on, “said Nath.
He also said that several damning books and documents had been found by the police.
According to the top Assam police official, the suspect who was detained in the Moirabari neighbourhood also ran a Madrassa.
Hiren Nath stated, “We are looking into the situation. More information is awaited.
Meanwhile, eight more persons having alleged links with jehadi organisations have been arrested in Moirabari in Assam’s Morigaon district on Thursday.
The linkmen were detained following search operations by the Morigaon Police at the Sarusola Girls Madrassa. The linkmen have been detained and will be questioned.
The head of Jamiulhuda Madrassa in Moirabari identified as Mufti Mustafa, was detained by the police earlier today. He allegedly had ties to the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda. The police seized various documents including a bank passbook and mobile phones from Mustafa’s possession. The police also locked up the Madrassa.
Meanwhile, another linkman from Milanpur identified as Afsarul has been detained in Morigaon.
