Assam Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking, Major Seizures Reported
Guwahati: Assam Police have intensified their war on drug trafficking, conducting high-impact operations that led to significant narcotics seizures in different parts of the state.
In a targeted raid on February 25, Sribhumi Police, acting on precise intelligence, launched an anti-narcotics operation under Ratabari Police Station’s jurisdiction.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 117 grams of suspected heroin, and one individual was arrested in connection with the case. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further links in the drug network.
In another major breakthrough, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle near Dholai Police Station and uncovered narcotics worth ₹14 crore, marking one of the largest drug busts in the region this year. The seized contraband included 40,000 YABA tablets and 260 grams of heroin. One suspect was taken into custody during the operation, and officials believe the bust is part of a larger drug syndicate operating across state borders.
The recent seizures underscore Assam Police’s relentless efforts to curb the illegal drug trade, aligning with the state’s ongoing #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police force’s swift action on social media, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crime from Assam.
YABA, also referred to as the “madness drug,” is a dangerous combination of methamphetamine and caffeine and has been increasingly infiltrating Northeast India’s narcotics market. With drug cartels expanding their reach, security forces remain on high alert, ensuring that Assam continues to tighten its grip on the trafficking network. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities determined to dismantle the supply chain and bring those responsible to justice.
