Assam Police Crackdown on ULFA-I: Cadre and Linkman Arrested Amid Bomb Threats

In a significant operation this week, Assam police apprehended a cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and a linkman in Guwahati’s Jalukbari area. The arrest of Pawan Darji, a ULFA-I cadre, occurred following a bomb threat at City Centre Mall on G S Road, which led to a temporary closure and evacuation of the premises.

The operation was conducted by Basistha police based on intelligence inputs, which led to Darji’s arrest. During interrogation, Darji disclosed the identity of a linkman associated with the group, resulting in the arrest of the individual by Jalukbari police under the leadership of IC Pritam Das.

Earlier on the same day, City Centre Mall experienced a bomb scare, prompting an immediate evacuation. A notice on the mall’s door indicated a closure for “TECHNICAL ISSUE,” but security forces conducted a thorough search and found no suspicious items.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Mrinal Deka confirmed the threat was a hoax, stating, “An email claiming a bomb threat was received. SSB, CRPF, and Assam Police conducted a search, but nothing suspicious was found.”

The arrests and subsequent investigations aim to uncover further connections and prevent future threats from the militant group.
