Assam Police Cracks Down on Drug Peddlers, Seizes Contraband in Three Operations

Guwahati, 17th May: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on X on Thursday that three suspected drug peddlers were apprehended, and contraband was seized in separate operations conducted by Assam Police.

In all three cases, the drugs were being transported from neighbouring states, Sarma noted.

“Over the last two days, @assampolice has been able to deal a body blow to drug peddlers in the state and saved the lives of countless youths from getting ruined,” Sarma emphasized.

Karimganj police arrested one individual in possession of two lakh YABA tablets, an illegal substance in India due to its methamphetamine content, classified as a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act.

Meanwhile, Jorhat and Golaghat police seized 358 grams of heroin and apprehended one suspect in a separate operation.

Additionally, in another operation conducted by Karimganj police, one person was arrested, and 1.2 kg of heroin was seized from him, Sarma disclosed.

“In all three instances, the narcotics were being carried from neighbouring states,” Sarma concluded, underscoring the cross-border nature of the illegal drug trade.
