Guwahati, 18th September: In a continued effort to combat fake gold smuggling, the Assam Police has successfully apprehended three smugglers and seized a fake gold statue in the shape of a boat from their possession.
Acting on specific information regarding the presence of gold smugglers, the police carried out a search operation at Borigaon Tiniali in Sonitpur district’s Gohpur on Monday. Three individuals, who had arrived in the area with the intention of selling the counterfeit gold boat, were detained by the police.
Mukhtar Hussian, Sariful Islam, and Rafiqul Ali, all citizens of Bihpuria in the Lakhimpur district, have been named as the suspects. They had driven a Centro automobile with the license plate AS12H-1507 to Gohpur. Two cell phones were also taken away from their possession. The police’s efforts to stop the trade in fake gold have made another important step forward with the seizure of the one and a half kilogram gold boat.
