Assam Police Held Primary Suspect in Torture of Youth Over Robbery Charges In Hailakandi

Guwahati: Assam Police arrested the primary suspect and three other people on February 7 in connection with the alleged beating and torture of a youth in the state’s Hailakandi district who was caught in the act of stealing items from a home, according to a police officer.

The development occurred after Assam DGP GP Singh urged the police to pursue legal action against the offenders right away.

”Reference Hailakandi viral video of torture – the main accused Nizamuddin Borbhuyan has been arrested by @HailakandiPolic along with three others. Lawful action follows. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam,” the Assam DGP tweeted.

The alleged thief allegedly attempted to steal items from one Nomjul Haque Laskar’s home in Krishnapur Bazar of the Katlicherra constituency within the Hailakandi district.

The young man was apprehended by Laskar while attempting to steal but instead of turning him over to the police, Laskar brutally beat and tormented the young man while tying him to a tree and shaving his head.

Numerous organisations in the district have denounced the terrible incident ever since the video of it went public and have called for the police to arrest Laskar for moral policing.

Later, the state police apprehended the main suspect while operating under the instructions of Assam DGP GP Singh.
