Assam Police Intensifies Crackdown, Arrests Two More for Pro-Pakistan Sentiments

Guwahati, Assam – The Assam Police have apprehended two additional individuals for allegedly expressing support for Pakistan on Indian territory, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The latest arrests, made in the Hojai and South Salmara-Mankachar districts, bring the total number of people detained in connection with this issue to 39 since the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam last month.

Chief Minister Sarma conveyed this information via a post on X late Saturday night, stating, “#Update on Crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil… A total of 39 Anti Nationals put behind bars till now.” This follows the earlier arrest of opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, who faces sedition charges for his alleged pro-Pakistan stance and purported defense of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam terror incident.

The Chief Minister had issued a strong warning on Friday, vowing to take stringent action against anyone found chanting pro-Pakistan slogans in the aftermath of the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack. Speaking at a campaign rally for the upcoming panchayat elections, Sarma urged the public to offer their prayers and support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army, emphasizing the need to bring Pakistani terrorists, wherever they may be hiding, to justice.

The terror attack in question occurred on April 22 in Baisaran, a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, south Kashmir. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 26 people, predominantly tourists, and left several others injured. The Assam Police’s ongoing operation underscores the state government’s firm stance against any expressions of support for hostile nations following this act of terror.
