Assam Police Intercepts Bangladeshi Infiltrators Near Indo-Bangladesh Border in Karimganj
Guwahati, 9th September: In an ongoing effort to prevent illegal infiltration, the Assam Police intercepted two Bangladeshi nationals, Shahadat Hussain and Priyanka Gain, along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Karimganj. Acting on specific information, the police successfully intercepted the duo and promptly pushed them back across the border.
An investigation into the matter is underway, with authorities closely monitoring the border region to prevent further infiltration attempts.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to the social media platform X to commend the Assam Police for their vigilance, stressing the importance of maintaining heightened security to address the infiltration threat.
This incident follows a similar operation last week, in which Assam Police personnel apprehended and deported several Bangladeshi nationals. Among them were Afroja Jahirul Sardar, Tumpa Haque, Ridoy Sk, Akhi Sk, and Lakhipur Akhtar, who were also pushed back in the early hours.
In a separate late-night operation on August 28, Karimganj police intercepted and deported three more Bangladeshi nationals—Md Zubair Sheikh, Juel Sheikh, and Ruma Khatun—who had attempted to enter Assam illegally. These repeated efforts reflect the Assam Police’s continued vigilance in safeguarding the region’s borders.
