“Assam Police Jawan joins ULFA-I”
Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his official visit to Teok stated that the government has inputs about an Assam Police official joining the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said that he does not know the exact name or which department the police official belongs to, but the government has evidence related to him joining the banned militant outfit.
A source speaking on the issue said that the person who had joined the ULFA-I belong to Teok and was deployed in one of the battalions of the police department but the name or exact designation of the police jawan was not revealed.
As of now, the ULFA-I has not even made any official statement regarding the issue.
It may be mentioned that even since Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took charge, he had been urging the ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah to come into the mainstream talks. However, instead of coming into direct talks, the ULFA-I had come into a unilateral ceasefire and have suspended all military operations for a few months citing the ongoing COVID situation.
