Assam Police launches ‘Drugs Free Assam’ mobile app

Guwahati:  The Assam Police on Friday has launched a mobile application titled ‘Drugs Free Assam’ which will help the citizens of Assam to inform the police officials about the drug rackets across the state.

The app aimed to generate public awareness against contrabands and encourage them to provide viral inputs or leads for police operations.

Addressing the event, Assam police director general police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta stressed that drug trafficking is a growing trend in the state and has also become a major concern for the state government and the Centre.

The officials further informed that the app can be downloaded from the ‘google play store’.

The police chief further added, “We receive some important leads from the public. That’s why we haven’t created this platform where people can alert police about any ongoing drug racket in their areas.”

However, Assam police has registered 1700 cases under the NDPS act after the state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the state police to conduct a major crackdown on the existing drug rackets in the state and around 2,900 accused have been apprehended which result in the seizure of psychotropic substances whose market value is around 325 crores, which includes 50 kg of heroin, 37 kg of opium and seizure of 133 vehicles etc.
