Assam Police Launches Probe After Christian School Warned Against Religious Education Focus

Guwahati, 18th February: A poster threatening the school authorities of Carmel School in Jorhat, warning against religious influence in education, has sparked outrage among residents and officials alike. The incident prompted the school principal to lodge a complaint at the Chinamara police post in Jorhat.

According to reports, unidentified individuals posted threatening posters on the school’s boundary wall, demanding the exclusion of symbols and statues of Christianity from the institution. The poster issued a one-week ultimatum, threatening consequences if the demands were not met. A copy of the poster was attached to the formal complaint filed by the principal.

In response to the escalating situation, a church body has submitted a formal application seeking police protection, citing the sensitivity of the matter and concerns within the school campus. The application, forwarded by Sister Rose Fatima, the school principal, emphasized the institution’s commitment to respecting individuals of all religions and cultures, fostering a peaceful environment.

Chinamara police have acknowledged the gravity of the situation and are actively investigating the matter. At present, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the poster, leaving the community on edge awaiting further developments.
