Guwahati, 2nd March: In a shocking development, a police officer reportedly took his own life by shooting himself in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, as per reports on Saturday.
Preliminary information suggests that the deceased has been identified as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Namrup Police Station, Anupam Gowala. The incident occurred at Rangpuria in Dibrugarh’s Lahowal locality around 2 am today.
Gowala allegedly used his service pistol to commit suicide. He hailed from Kakosang in Bokakhat.
Reports indicate that a woman named Bishnupriya Lahon Gogoi sustained severe injuries in the incident and has been admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in critical condition.
The body of the deceased OC was discovered at the residence of Bipul Gogoi in Rangpuria, according to reports.
Meanwhile, senior officials from the Dibrugarh Police have reportedly arrived at the scene of the incident, and an investigation has been initiated into the matter.
