Assam: Police Officer Faces Disciplinary Action Following Suspect’s Death in Custody

Guwahati, 25th April: After a suspect tragically took his own life while in police custody, the officer-in-charge of Mandia Police Outpost, Susmita Bora, found herself facing disciplinary action on Wednesday.

The incident, which unfolded in Mandia Gaon village within Barpeta district, led to OC Susmita Bora being relieved of her duties and placed on reserves, while LC Roushan Ali was suspended from duty.

Additionally, a home guard jawan faced dismissal from service in connection with the suspect’s suicide. Barpeta district superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Yadav initiated these disciplinary measures, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

The incident has sparked unrest in the local community, with residents staging protests outside the police outpost, demanding justice for the deceased individual, identified as Lutfor Rahman alias Rinku Ali. As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death continue, authorities face increased scrutiny and calls for accountability from the public.
