Assam Police Officer Suspended Amid Allegations of Promoting Online Gambling
Guwahati, 30th May: Papori Kalita, also known as Kunhi, a member of the Assam Police’s Veerangana Commando force, has been suspended following allegations of promoting online gambling app advertisements through a YouTube channel. Her actions led to her gaining popularity on social media platforms.
The decision to suspend Kalita was made by the home department after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in court, drawing attention to the issue. Concerns were raised about the ethical implications of a police officer promoting a gambling app and the potential influence on the public, given her role in law enforcement.
The swift response from the home department underscores the importance of upholding the integrity and reputation of the police force. This suspension serves as a reminder of the standards expected from law enforcement officers in maintaining public trust and adherence to ethical conduct.
