Assam Police Officer Suspended Over Alleged Bribery in Arms Supplier Case

Guwahati: Mridul Baruah, the officer-in-charge of Namtola Police Station in Assam, has been suspended from service following an internal probe into allegations of serious misconduct, police sources confirmed.

Baruah allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in exchange for releasing an individual suspected of supplying illegal arms. The accusation has triggered widespread concern within the police department, leading to a formal investigation to determine the facts and hold those involved accountable.

Initially placed under “reserve close,” a temporary disciplinary measure, Baruah was officially suspended after the inquiry’s preliminary findings pointed to his direct involvement. The suspension has been viewed as a strong message by the department, reinforcing its stance on maintaining integrity and zero tolerance towards corruption in the force.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the incident and ascertain if any other officials were complicit.
