Assam Police Ready to Assist in Return of ULFA (I) Militants’ Bodies

Guwahati, 4th October: Assam police have expressed their willingness to collaborate with any government to facilitate the return of the bodies of ULFA (I) militants who were executed by the banned outfit. This comes after ULFA (I) took responsibility for executing top leader Lachit Hazarika alias Brigadier Salim Asom and cadre Bornali.

Assam DGP GP Singh urged ULFA (I) to provide information about the location of the bodies, allowing for their retrieval for the last rites. He emphasized that press releases have their limitations and encouraged the outfit to hand over the deceased militants to their respective families for proper funeral ceremonies.

Lachit Hazarika, also known as Brigadier Salim Asom, was a prominent ULFA (I) leader who had joined the outfit in the 1990s. Bornali, another member of the banned group, had joined in 2021. Both were executed by ULFA (I), and their bodies are sought to be returned to their families.
