Assam: Police Recover Grenades in Dibrugarh; Investigation Underway

Guwahati, 12th September: Police in Upper Assam successfully averted a potential violent incident by recovering two grenades in Dibrugarh. The explosives were discovered during a routine security operation, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin and intended use of the grenades.

Security measures in the region have been heightened to prevent any possible threats or untoward incidents.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing the security concerns, reaffirmed that ULFA (I) still has an influence in the state, despite its reduced presence. “We cannot deny its impact when there are still around 400 cadres in the Myanmar camp,” Sarma said, adding that efforts for peace talks with the militant outfit are ongoing.

While ULFA (I)’s influence has declined, Sarma emphasized that both the Union Home Ministry and the state government have never claimed that the group has no presence. Talks with ULFA (I) leader Paresh Barua have taken place, though there have been no recent discussions since the elections.
