Assam Police recovered suspected bombs items in Sivasagar on Independence Day
Guwahati, 15th August: Assam Police have recovered suspected bombs items from two locations in Sivasagar district, amidst claims by the banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) of planting 19 bombs across the state to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.
Police officials confirmed that bombs were found near the Sivasagar District Transport Office in Ranghar Chari Ali and in front of the ONGC in Nazira. One item was found in a flat car adjacent to the DTO, while another was recovered from a flat ambulance adjacent to ONGC.
In a press release, ULFA-I claimed responsibility for planting bombs in several areas across Upper and Lower Assam, including Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Guwahati, and other locations. The group stated that they aimed to demonstrate their strength by carrying out bomb explosions from 6 am to 12 noon, but called off the operation due to technical reasons.

- Lakhimpur ASTC
- SP Office
- Laluk Daily Market
- Barghat Police Outpost
- Nangav Medical College
- Guwahati Dispur Last Gate
- Gandhi Mandap
- Narengi Army Camp
- Pan Bazaar
- Jorabat Overbridge
- Bhetapara
- Maligaon
- Rajgarh
- Nalbari
- Rangia
The group also mentioned that the exact locations of bombs planted in Tinsukia district, including Panitola, Dibrugarh district, Golaghat, and Sorupathar, could not be confirmed.
Police officials have confirmed the recovery of suspicious items and are investigating further to determine the nature of the items and their connection to ULFA-I’s claims. The outfit has requested the recovery and deactivation of the explosives to prevent harm to the general public.
