Assam Police Reports Major Progress in Convictions and Charge Sheet Submissions

Guwahati, 29th August: In a notable advancement in law enforcement, the Assam Police recently held its monthly State Crime Conference to review the effectiveness of its crime-fighting strategies. The August 2024 conference underscored significant progress in investigation procedures, timely charge sheet submissions, and an encouraging rise in conviction rates, reflecting the Assam Government’s commitment to fortifying the justice system.

As of July 2024, Assam has achieved 3,537 convictions, with a charge sheet submission rate exceeding 60 percent. This uptick in legal outcomes is part of a sustained effort over the past four years to improve the state’s justice system.

The statistics highlight a progressive trend in convictions: from 855 in 2021, rising to 4,642 in 2022, and 4,835 in 2023. Notably, the first half of 2024 alone has already seen 3,537 convictions. Similarly, the charge sheet submission rate has shown significant improvement, climbing from 39.30 percent in 2021 to a notable 64.56 percent in 2024, following a dip in 2022.

These achievements are indicative of the Assam Police’s ongoing dedication to enhancing law enforcement efficiency and efficacy, striving towards a safer and more just society.

In response to these developments, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts on X, stating, “The @assampolice held its monthly State Crime Conference recently to gauge efficiency. In 2024, 3,537 cases have seen convictions till July, with a commendable charge sheet rate over 60%. Great work, team 👏. Let’s continue to ensure the safety of the people and the prompt resolution of all cases.”
