Assam Police Requests CBI for Final Reports in SI Junmoni Rabha’s Case

Guwahati, 8th February: The Assam Police has made a formal request to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to furnish the final reports submitted to a lower court in Nagaon following an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha.

In a communication addressed to the CBI, Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh underscored the importance of acquiring the Final Form Reports for analysis and potential further action. These reports were initially submitted to the competent court as part of the investigative process.

The CBI assumed jurisdiction over the case in June 2023, taking over from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police. This transition aimed to uphold impartiality in the investigation, responding to public outcry and the sensitive nature of the incident involving a police officer.

Five distinct cases were registered concerning Junmoni Rabha’s demise, including filings by her mother Sumitra Rabha, Hasina Begum against multiple police officers, and suo motu proceedings at the Jakhalabandha and Lakhimpur Sadar police stations.

Junmoni Rabha, serving as a Sub-Inspector in the Assam Police, tragically lost her life in a collision involving her car and a container truck in Nagaon district on May 16, 2023. The fatal accident occurred at Sarubhagia village under the jurisdiction of the Jakhalabandha police station in the Kaliabor Sub-Division.

While the final reports for three of the cases were submitted in Nagaon, the report pertaining to the Lakhimpur case was presented approximately a month earlier. The specifics of these reports have not been disclosed publicly, yet they hold significant importance for the Assam Police in assessing the situation and determining any necessary follow-up actions.
