Assam Police Seize Major Cache of Arms and Ammunition in Tinsukia

Guwahati, August 31, 2024 — In a major operation against illegal weaponry, Assam Police have seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition in Tinsukia district. The seizure included one Heckler & Koch submachine gun (SMG), 130 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and approximately one kilogram of PEK explosive powder.

The recovered arms are suspected to be linked to a banned organization operating along the volatile Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed the details of the operation on X, highlighting the state’s commitment to tackling unlawful weapon possession.

“Continuing our efforts against unlawful weapon holding, one Heckler & Koch SMG, 130 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and approximately one kilogram of PEK explosive powder recovered by police in Tinsukia. Suspected of belonging to a proscribed organization active in the Assam-Arunachal border,” Singh stated.

This operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at curbing the illegal circulation of arms in the northeastern region.
