Assam Police Seizes 2000 kg of Burmese Supari Smuggled

Guwahati: An oil tanker loaded with 2000 kg of Burmese Supari has been seized by Assam Police on Friday.

The Burmese Supari have been seized at the Lailapur police patrol post in Cachar district of Assam.

The banned contraband was found sealed inside the oil tanker of the vehicle.

The twelvewheeler oil tanker of Bharat Petroleum bearing registration number AS-28-AC-0225 was on its way to Assam from Mizoram via NH-306.

Police said that they have arrested the driver of the vehicle and has been identified as Saabul Uddin.

It needs to be mentioned that Uddin is being interrogated by the cops and further investigation is underway. 

Smuggling of these betel nuts from Myanmar has been rising at an alarming rate in India. This illicit trade is mainly booming in the north-eastern regions, especially through Manipur and Mizoram, both of which share borders with Myanmar.
