In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Assam Police apprehended two suspects and seized a massive consignment of 50,000 YABA tablets valued at Rs 15 crore at Ghoongur Bypass in Cachar district.
The operation, conducted by Cachar Police based on specific intelligence inputs, targeted a vehicle entering Assam from a neighboring state. Upon interception and search, authorities uncovered five packets of the illicit stimulant, carefully concealed within the vehicle.
“Based on credible inputs, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation at Ghoongur Bypass and intercepted a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media, commending the department’s vigilance.
The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, were taken into custody, and the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt has been seized.
This operation marks another milestone in Assam’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics under the #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the state’s commitment to combating the drug menace, praising the police for their swift and effective action.
The successful bust underscores Assam’s intensified efforts to dismantle drug networks and safeguard its communities from the devastating impact of narcotics. Investigations are underway to trace the larger network linked to the consignment.
