Assam: In a significant breakthrough, Assam Police intercepted a vehicle on December 27, leading to the recovery of 532.46 grams of heroin valued at approximately ₹3.5 crore.
The drugs were skillfully hidden in secret compartments of the vehicle. One individual was apprehended during the operation, which marked another success in the state’s ongoing fight against narcotics.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for their vigilance, highlighting the achievement on X (formerly Twitter). “Based on input from an apprehended individual, @nagaonpolice intercepted a vehicle and recovered 532.46 grams of heroin upon thorough search. The seized drugs are worth ₹3.5 crore. Good job @assampolice #AssamAgainstDrugs,” he posted.
This operation follows another major anti-drug effort conducted by Assam’s Special Task Force (STF) in collaboration with Cachar district police on December 21. The late-night raid on Silcoori Road in Silchar resulted in the seizure of 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin, with a combined market value estimated at ₹20 crore.
The apprehended suspect, Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a resident of Sonai in Cachar district, was caught transporting the narcotics on a motorcycle. STF Chief Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, who led the operation, stated, “We apprehended Sahil Ahmed Laskar while he was transporting narcotics. We recovered and seized 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin from his possession.”
These back-to-back operations underline Assam’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling networks involved in the illicit trade. The success reflects the state’s intensified efforts under the banner of #AssamAgainstDrugs, earning praise for law enforcement’s proactive measures.
