Assam: Power Department Launches Major Crackdown on Electricity Theft in Baksa

Guwahati: The Power Department has initiated a large-scale operation to curb electricity theft in the area. The crackdown targets individuals and households found to be engaging in illegal electricity consumption, including those charging e-rickshaws without proper connections.

During the operation, various electrical items, including refrigerators, fans, and water pumps, have been confiscated from households involved in electricity theft. The owners of these items will have to pay fines to retrieve them.

The operation is being conducted at 15 locations under the supervision of a senior officer of the Power Department in Baksa. So far, eight cases of electricity theft have been reported, and action is being taken against those found guilty.

In a related development, one person has been arrested in connection with electricity theft in Rongiya. The Power Department has warned that anyone found consuming more than the allowed amount of electricity per kilowatt will face action, and their electrical items, including TVs, refrigerators, and water pumps, may be seized.
