Guwahati, 20th January: The Assam Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (APDCL) has been lauded with a commendable B+ rating in the recent Consumer Service Ratings of Distribution Companies (DISCOMs), as announced by Union Power Minister RK Singh. The assessment, covering the fiscal year 2022-23, marks a positive trend for APDCL, reflecting an improvement from B in the previous fiscal year.

This recognition indicates the corporation’s dedication to enhancing consumer services, aligning with positive developments in the power distribution sector. The acknowledgment was part of the third edition of the assessment launched by Union Power Minister RK Singh.

Apart from APDCL, the Consumer Service Ratings showcased the performance of various power distribution entities. Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) demonstrated noteworthy progress, advancing from a B+ to an A rating, underscoring improvements in their consumer service initiatives.

In a positive shift, Mizoram Power and Electricity Department (MPED) achieved a C+ rating, showcasing improvement from the D rating in the previous fiscal year. However, Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APDA) experienced a marginal decrease, moving from C+ to C this year. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) received a B rating, slightly lower than the B+ rating in the previous fiscal year.

The Consumer Service Ratings were revealed during a Review Planning & Monitoring meeting of the power sector in New Delhi, where Union Power Minister RK Singh chaired the session. The meeting brought together union and state officials, along with CMDs of state power utilities.

Among the top performers nationally were NPCL (Uttar Pradesh), BRPL (Delhi), BYPL (Delhi), and TPDDL (Delhi), achieving the highest A+ ranking among the 62 rated DISCOMs nationwide.

These ratings serve as a catalyst for healthy competition among DISCOMs, inspiring them to elevate the quality of services offered to consumers. The comprehensive report facilitates an assessment and enhancement of consumer services across various power distribution companies.
