Guwahati, 4th June: Congress candidate Pradyut Bordoloi has surged ahead in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, currently leading by a substantial margin of 10,632 votes. The polling in Assam, which was conducted in three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7, saw an impressive voter turnout across the state’s 14 constituencies. Specifically, phase one recorded a turnout of 78.25 per cent, phase two saw 81.17 per cent, and phase three witnessed a remarkable 85.45 per cent turnout, highlighting strong civic participation among the electorate, which comprises 2,43,01,960 registered voters.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged dominant, securing nine out of the 14 seats in Assam. However, its coalition partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), did not win any seats. The Congress secured three seats, while the All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and an independent candidate each won one seat.

Pradyut Bordoloi’s lead in the Nagaon constituency indicates a potential shift in the political landscape of Assam, reflecting the dynamic nature of electoral contests in the state. As the results continue to unfold, they reveal evolving voter preferences and pave the way for a renewed political discourse in the region.
